Georgia baseball coach David Perno on Monday announced the signing of four prospects to national letters of intent to attend UGA and play for the Bulldogs next year.
The group includes Brett DeLoach, a catcher from Blackshear, Ga., Kyle Farmer, a middle infielder from Atlanta, Miles Head, a catcher/infielder from Fayetteville, Ga., and Zach Taylor, an outfielder from Statesboro, Ga.
“All four will make impacts as freshman as we feel these are four of the better hitters in the state,” Perno said.
DeLoach is a 6-0, 190-pound two-sport star at Pierce County High School. He hit .414 with six home runs and 31 RBI to lead the Bears to a 29-4 record and the Region 2AA Championship in 2008.
DeLoach was named Region Catcher of the Year in 2008 and Best Offensive Player in 2007. He is ranked first in his class academically and has earned the UGA Certificate of Merit. He is the son of David and Terri DeLoach.
“Brett is a catcher who has been attending our camps for the last two years,” Perno said. “He is a strong character kid with a ton of talent and has shown the ability to be able to hit at a high level.”
“I am very excited to be a part of the Georgia baseball program,” DeLoach said. “It has been a life-long dream for as long as I can remember.”
A 6-0, 185-pound infielder, Farmer is a two-sport standout at Marist High School in Atlanta. As a junior, he hit .400 with nine home runs and 42 RBI for the War Eagles and earned All-Region honors.
Farmer helped lead the East Cobb Yankees to the Connie Mack World Series title this past summer and is a 2009 Pre-Season All-State selection. He is the son of Rachel and Bryan Farmer.
“Kyle is a tremendous leader as the quarterback for the Marist football team and looks to be our shortstop for the future,” Perno said. “He will definitely contribute in many areas as a freshman.”
“I chose UGA because I want to continue to be a part of the winning tradition of Georgia baseball,” Farmer said.
Head is a 6-1, 215-pound catcher/infielder at Whitewater High School and hit .522 for the Wildcats with 10 home runs and 38 RBI in 2008. He was named All-Region and was 2005 14U Baseball America Player of the Year as a member of the Georgia Roadrunners.
“Miles is a very versatile defensive player and has the ability to hit for a high average and has a ton of power,” Perno said.
